I've been noticing for a while now that the inside edges of my front tyres are wearing down much faster than the rest of the tread, and no matter how many times I get the wheel alignment done, it seems to drift back out of spec within a few weeks which is driving me crazy and costing me a fortune in tyres. On top of that, there's this dull clunking noise that comes from the front suspension every time I go over a speed bump or hit any kind of dip in the road, and the steering feels a bit vague and floaty at highway speeds, like the car doesn't really want to track in a straight line. I had a mate who knows his way around cars take a quick look and he grabbed the front wheel and gave it a good shake, and there was definitely some play that he said shouldn't be there, pointing to the lower control arm bushings which looked pretty cracked and worn out. He explained that when those bushings go bad, the suspension geometry gets all messed up which would explain both the uneven tyre wear and the clunking noise, and he said I should get it sorted before the tyres get completely ruined. I've been looking around for a good place to get this done properly, because I know it's not just a simple bolt-on job and the alignment afterwards is critical. I came across a few places that advertise themselves as Top rated Jeep lower control arm replacement specialists, and apparently they use quality parts and actually know how to torque everything to the right specs rather than just guessing. Has anyone here had their lower control arms replaced and noticed a big improvement in handling and tyre wear afterwards? I'm trying to decide whether to just do the bushings or go for the whole arm assembly, and I'd love to hear what others have done and whether it was worth the cost. Really appreciate any insights from people who've been through this before.
